Shiddat, one of the meanings of which is endless sacrifice, the latest message of young and "true" love, the kind of extreme action and self-destruction involved. One of its songs is called Barbadian: Annihilation.

One of the best things about Mahesh Bhatt's alumnus Kunal Deshmukh's excessive blonde movie is the complete embodiment of this emotional state by its main character. Sunny Kaushal enters Shiddhat as a gorgeous wedding crusher and walks out of it on a note of grace, emerging as the vibrant heart of the film.

The screenplays of Sridhar Raghavan and Dhiraj Kedarnath Ratan are closely tied to the rules of this type of film - one soul hurts more than the other, it usually belongs to men, and so it is not only accepted but also celebrated.

Hockey player Jaggi (Kaushal) falls in love with swimmer Krittika (Radhika Madan) at first sight - rather, he chooses her as the object of his obsession and hopes that she will play with him. Krittika's suspicious consent to Jaggi's impulsive behavior is seen as a source of sexual arousal. Since Jaggi, when he does not obey Krittika, has charming, good humor and smooth dance moves, Krittika tolerates him but keeps his full promise.

Her reluctance was blamed for her impending marriage in London. If you can snatch me from the altar, I will be yours, he says to Jaggi. He took it seriously enough to make a perilous journey from India to England via France. In Paris, he met Gautam (Mohit Raina), a staff member at the Indian Embassy, who was determined to send him back to where he was.

Screen romances are full of strange terms. Even unfamiliar things get in Jaggi's way in the form of a never-ending series of obstacles as he moves towards his goal of snatching Krittika from his altar. Kritika's unequivocal response to Jaggi's unequal progress only ignites his flame. Who doesn't mean?

A throwback to the 1990s romance, the Disney + Hotstar release seeks to water down some of the excesses of that decade. Despite his arm-length attitude towards Jaggi, Krittika goes lightly. No one punishes or rebukes him for being cruel and traumatic. The movie is so uninteresting in Kritika that we spent almost all of our time in Sunny's corner, with Gautam in the role of coach who gave feedback and encouragement.

The increasingly irrational twist of events could have been even more ridiculous if Sunny Kaushal hadn’t acted in her scenes as if this was her very last movie. As a man in love with the concept of love, Jaggi gestures brilliantly and suffers admirably. The heights and depths of the movie are revealed almost entirely by its all-encompassing commitment to character.

Krittika says to Jaggi, you don't know how I am suffering. For this we have to take credit. Mis-cast as the object of unbearable annoyance, Radhika Madan struggles to convey an underwritten and opaque character that serves as a Sunny Lone show - One Heart, Two.

The strategy has the support of Mohit Raina. Encounters between Jaggi and Gautam are much more sensitive than the distance relationship between Jaggi and Krittika. The young couple's unrest runs parallel to Gautam's own troubled marriage with Ira (Diana Penty).

Gautam and Ira were too busy to look each other in the eye that he was a government employee on duty while he was an employee who shed blood for undocumented immigrants. I love you but I don't like you anymore, Ira tells Gautam.
