Fantastic Beasts 3: Homosexual references removed from Chinese version

The Chinese version cuts six seconds from the film's final cut, which includes a two-line dialogue that refers to a previous romantic relationship between the main characters.

MELBOURNE: Film studio Warner Bros. says it has "agreed" with Chinese censors to edit certain references to homosexuality in "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore", its latest dramatic release in the country.

According to the Australian website News.com.au, the Chinese version cuts six seconds from the film's final cut, which includes two lines of dialogue referring to a previous romantic relationship between the main character, Albus Dumbledore and Gelart Grindelwald, starring Jude Law and Mads. Has done. Mickelsen, in the movie.

The lines on the question were, "Because I was in love with you" and "Summer Gellert and I fell in love".

"The Secrets of Dumbledore" is the third film in the "Fantastic Beasts" series, a prequel spin-off of the popular "Harry Potter" franchise based on JK Rowling's book series.

Also starring Eddie Redmain, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Alison Suddle, Dan Fogler, Callum Turner and Jessica Williams, the film was released in China in April.

Warner Bros. said the film's spirit was "intact" despite the cut.

"As a studio, we are committed to maintaining the integrity of every film we release, and it is broad in situations that require short cuts to respond sensitively to various market factors.

"We hope their features will be revealed worldwide by their creators but historically we have encountered small edits in the local market. In the case of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, a six-second cut was requested and taken by Warner Bros. in a studio web portal. That said, the film manages to entertain as well as inform.

The company says it wants viewers, including in China, to enjoy the film.

Warner Bros. added in a statement: "We want viewers around the world to see and enjoy this image, and it is important to us that Chinese viewers have the opportunity to experience this small edit as well."

In 2007, Rowling announced that Dougaldor, headmaster of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was gay and that they and Grindelwald had a relationship in their youth.

The English author made this comment after the publication of the seventh and final "Harry Potter" book "The Deathly Hallows". Dumbledore was clearly not gay in the book series.

"The Secrets of Dumbledore" officially acknowledges the character's sexuality on screen for the first time.

Previously, "Bohemian's hapsapsodi", the Freddie Mercury biopic, famously cut by Chinese censors, omitted all references to the sexuality of the person in front of the queen.

Even Rami Malek's Oscar-winning speech for Best Actor, starring Mercury in the film, changed on Chinese television when subtitles replaced "gay people" with "special groups."
